Mechanical Engineering + Robotics and Autonomous Systems

Hello! My name is Wensen Liu and I am an undergraduate student at the University of Maryland College Park (UMD) studying Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in Robotics and Autonomous Systems. On this website you will find a collection of my projects and professional accomplishments!

As for the “About Me”, I can probably sum it up with describing myself as a robotics nerd. I have been working with robots since high school, where I spent all 4 years with my schools FIRST Robotics team (go 449!). Throughout my undergraduate, I’ve worked with a wide variety of robots, including UR3 arms, Boston Dynamics Spot, and Turtlebots. I have also built+programmed a good variety of robots myself, such as an autonomous over sand vehicle, a bio-inspired walking robot, and a brain-computer interface controlled robotic hand!

In addition to the robots I’ve worked with in an academic setting, I also consistently work with the Unmanned Surface Vessels & Controls Engineering Group under Dr. Timothy Coats on the development of autonomous combatant crafts for the Navy. In my time with them so far, I have developed sensor suites, mechatronic integrations, and control architectures for their autonomous ships!

As for my hobbies…it’s more robots! I am an active participant in combat robotics competitions up and down the east coast. I’ve created 1lb, 12lb, and 30lb robots (which you can take a look at in my projects) and most commonly fight at the National Havoc Robot League (NHRL)!

I hope you enjoy your time here, and please feel free to reach out!
